SSE Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre
The new SSE Visitor Centre overlooking the Pitlochry Dam in Perthshire tells the story of the building of Scotland’s great Hydro Electric schemes. During the three decades after WW2 an army of men blasted and hand-dug tunnels through mountains to bring ’Power to the Glens' where only one croft in 100 had electricity. This feat of engineering changed rural life in the Highlands of Scotland forever.
The building is perched high above the River Tummel overlooking the dam and power station. Inside visitor facilities are arranged on two levels. The upper floor has a shop, introductory exhibition and cafe. The lower floor houses the main interpretive exhibition, film theatre and education room.
