Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery
Birmingham Museum and Galleries (BMAG) is one of the most important city museums in the UK. Campbell & Co was appointed to create a new master plan for the Phase I development of the museum‘s long term vision to improve public access and redisplay the museum‘s collections over thirty six galleries. Key to the success of replanning the museum was the making of a connection between the magnificent ’Gas Hall‘ and the upper level galleries with the insertion of a new vertical circulation route in the form of a grand staircase and lifts. The Gas Hall will be the museum‘s new main entrance with reception, shop and café. The new concepts anticipate the Hall being in regular use for evening functions and events and will be connected to a new commercial a-la-carte restaurant.
BMAG has the world‘s finest collection of Pre-Raphaelite artwork and the collection will be redisplayed as the centre piece of fine arts over two new galleries located adjacent to the new stairs on the first floor. Additional galleries have been created and new collections introduced including ’Faith in Birmingham‘, representing the city‘s multi-faith community. Campbell & co assisted with the development of a temporary exhibition through our involvement with community workshops and designing the graphics for the exhibition.
