Whitelee Science Centre
Scottish Power built this new centre on their wind farm to the south of Glasgow. It has been designed as a science and learning centre focussed on the subject of alternative sustainable energy capture and production. The emphasis is naturally on wind power using almost exclusively, hands on interactive exhibits to deliver the interpretation and learning. The visitor centre is operated by the Glasgow Science Centre who use the building as an outreach education resource in addition to facilitating the general public. The centre has a large education facility a cafe and shop in addition to the main exhibition. Since opening the building, Scottish Power has developed a highly successful series of mountain bike trails around the wind farm, that have proven to be as much of a visitor draw as the exhibits.
