The new Biggar museum has been created behind a typical 18th century Scottish high street frontage in a large garage and car repair shop, purchased by the Biggar Museums Trust. The result is a small jewel of a museum that displays a quite remarkable collection of objects of national significance. The aesthetic style reflects the rural industrial nature of the building with exposed brick, painted boarding and steel fixtures. Included in the new arrangements are the best objects from three local museums and the display of a series of historic shops with rare intact interiors. The new museum has a large temporary exhibition gallery, archives, stores and a shop.
